ADB Loans $11.7 Million to Cambodia

December 11th, 2007 · No Comments

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced that it will loan Cambodia a total of $11.7 million according to an Asian Development Bank press release.

The breakdown is a $10 million loan and a $1.7 million grant and it is specifically earmarked to drive the maturity of the Cambodia economy by continued development of a solid, efficient and market-oriented financial system, to sustain economic growth and to eradicate Cambodian poverty.

Such a cash injection into the Cambodia economy with the intent to support a future market-oriented financial system aligns with Cambodia’s desire to have a Cambodia stock exchange in the near term. Is also raises concerns as to whether the Cambodia economy is ready for such independence with its financial markets despite the desires for the Cambodia government.
