Food inflation is a global problem for all economies at this point. Besides higher demand by countries such as China and India through higher GDP per head, the speculators have made prices soar even higher in the last few weeks. The big concern is for those who live on less than $1 or $2 a day. What the Cambodia government is starting to do is ramp up rice production and is working with countries such as Thailand and Vietnam to for a Rice cartel. In the short term however, all the Cambodia government can do is try to protect domestic supply, which is has, and work directly with the Thai or Vietnam government to tap in to their stockpiles should there be a dire need before the next rice harvest.
