Cambodia Foreign Ownership to Promote Economic Growth

September 11th, 2007 · No Comments

In 2005, the Cambodian investment law was amended to allow for foreign ownership of fixed assets. However, due to a lack of enforcement and proper implementation the law is outdated and requires an uplift according to Asia Property Report.

In affect, a re-established Cambodian investment law would promote economic growth by attracting additional foreign direct investment that would otherwise go to Vietnam or Thailand. As Thailand is in the mist of contemplating more restrictive foreign ownerships laws, this is an opportune moment for Cambodia to promote a friendly foreign direct investment environment.
