Cambodia Set to Open Cambodia Stock Exchange in 2009

Korea Exchange (KRX) and the Cambodia government have finally agreed to establish a Cambodia stock exchange in 2009 according to The Economic Times.

The Cambodia government will own 51 percent and KRX will own 49 percent of the new exchange with KRX acting as the regulatory body to oversee trading.

South Korea has pledged to spend $1.8 million to help set up the Cambodia stock exchange.

Cambodia Seeks $3 Billion Investment for Power Plants

The Cambodia government is seeking $3 billion in Cambodia foreign direct investment to built power plants to handle the future increase in Cambodia energy needs according to the Bangkok Post.

The Cambodia government has identified China and Vietnam as key contributors to Cambodia FDI for the project to build a number of hydropower plants with a combined capacity of 1,100 megawatts.

Cambodia Government Eyes Stock Exchange as a Means to Boost Cambodia Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)

The Cambodia Government continues to drive towards creating a Cambodia stock exchange that it believes will significantly help attract Cambodia Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) according to Business Week.

The UN World Investment Report 2007 indices that only $483 million was attributed to Cambodia foreign direct investment (FDI) and the Cambodia government sees is neighbors such as Vietnam and Thailand getting the lion share of FDI with help from the fact they have stock exchanges.

Telekom Malaysia to Invest in Cambodia

Telekom Malaysia, fixed line operator, has announced that it will invest in Cambodia $150 million according to Reuters.

The Cambodia investment will go towards upgrading network capacity and adding 500 base transmitter stations into the Cambodia infrastructure.
